~2 years Haztank. What would you do if all you cared about was the paycheck?

Single, no kids, and genuinely prefer zero social interaction. A vet that is perfectly fine with the road warrior lifestyle. I genuinely only care about the paycheck. I don’t mind if it’s one month out, three months out, or half a year out at a time. As long as the paycheck matches the work.
I live along the Tennessee/Virginia border, but I’m not sure if that really matters. I have no problems traveling, especially for long duration time on the road.
So what would you do? Do any of you have an amazing suggestion? I’m all ears. Thanks in advance.
thescartographer@reddit
Have you already looked at the companies running out of Eastman in Kingsport? I live in Rogersville and the amount of options for tanker and flatbed here in east TN is what’s keeping me going
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
That is actually where I currently am. If you highly value home time, it is not a bad place to be. It might even be a perfect fit for some people. But the ceiling for pay is not very high above starting. And they also only work about 2/3 of your clock.A great spot for some, but I’m not quite a perfect fit.
thescartographer@reddit
I run flatbed for a company near Bristol but I’ve been seriously considering switching to tanker after hearing how people feel about the options around here. Honestly with my truck breaking down for the third time I’m tapped out at this company and tired of only making $600/week
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
First year at Eagle I passed 80k, barely. This year has been a hair slower. I probably would be making over 70k still, If I didn’t have the broken leg for 3 mo. If you live in the area and value home time… and don’t wanna deal with Maverick any more… hit me up. But I thought maverick was good… esp if you run glass.
absurdistpassenger@reddit
So far I'm making a killing in Spartanburg pulling these plastic pellets around lol. Don't know if it'll sustain into next year but I'm hoping so.
thescartographer@reddit
Lmao I live in Rogersville and I’ve considered them but this company was supposed to pay more. My truck doesn’t even have an APU 🥲
clarobert@reddit
Definitely North Slope if all you care about is the paycheck. The adventure and money make it well worth the solitude and crazy shit that you'll encounter. I did a few years up there when I was a younger man - came home with enough cash to buy a house, two vehicles, build a shop and still have a six figures left to sock away towards retirement. You'll see and encounter things that you would never dream of dealing with the relentless parade of idiot drivers that we do on the typical interstate runs. If you want to work hard, sock away your money, be smart, you could realistically work the Slope and retire in about ten to 15 years.
Pocket_Biscuits@reddit
North slope is northern Alaska, like on ice road truckers?
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
I will definitely check their recruitment page
truckerslife411@reddit
I delivered cryogenics. Nitrogen, oxygen, co2, argon, and my last gig was hydrogen. Hardly deal with customer. Go onsite and deliver into their tank and go pick up another load. Paid to load, unload, breakdown, pre and post trip. Holidays and personal time.
Disastrous-Most-528@reddit
Car haul. Try working out of BMW in Greer SC.
ResponsibilityTop732@reddit
2 words. Heavy haul
aBallofToast@reddit
Cryo hauling. Or fuel hauling. I haul gasoline. We work 6 days a week and most of us are between $120k - $130.
Some of those union cryo haulers are making serious money after they get some seniority.
brsrafal@reddit
Tanker hazmat for sure pay most $ better work then flatbed. Also they is local 6 figure potential with the right company. I always want to switch from flatbed but companies either want tanker experience or they crazy hours.
Useful_Badger6021@reddit
Clean harbors national trans division if you don't mind stay out
North-Huckleberry347@reddit
Try getting on with Certarus. They keep their otr guys out a couple months minimum. If you want to stay out longer you will. Pay is hourly for ALL hours, you will make well into six figures.
Advanced_Complex_242@reddit
If its strictly about the pay i say linehaul, car hauling, or heavy haul.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
I am definitely curious about heavy haul, but I can’t think of a good company that would give me a chance with zero flatbed experience
Advanced_Complex_242@reddit
If im not mistaken ats has heavy haul. They also have flatbed which could get you started and then youd be able to move if (assuming it works like that). If you dont want to wait i say get into ltl linehaul, food service, or car hauling
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
The problem with me going flatbed is that I have screws in both knees. I would have a difficult time squatting those 150 pound tarps that’s why I decided to go Haztank
basickbassman@reddit
Cryogenics, easy 150 a year.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
Company name?
basickbassman@reddit
Linde, Messer, air products, airgas, Matheson trigas, poet, genox, avoid KAG.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
Well yeah. KAG by me is general chem. But the air gas at my area is day cab only and about 110k.
Hrmm. I wonder who the best would be for OTR cryo. I’d be all over it for 150.
Feeling_Display8750@reddit
You could prolly pull 130-150 at Walmart your first year. They have you home every week, but you could probably be approved for extensions just about every week if that’s your priority. A lot of times we get 175-275 bonuses for extensions, particularly around holidays
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
This is going to sound weird, but I think that might be harder than what I currently do. The lack of visibility on those 53 footers is just ridiculous.
I actually had to even considered Walmart, but you are right. They do indeed make a good deal with pay. And honestly, I wouldn’t mind if I’m not even home once a month. Thanks for the reminder.
xDoomKitty@reddit
Walmart is what i was gonna suggest. Most of their stuff is fairly easy to do. Big open lots, plenty of space.

Get a TWIC and move to West Texas.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
I am assuming you are referring to the oil fields? And I already have the TWIC covered. Any chance you can make an estimate on the pay scale?
0100100012635@reddit
Tanker drivers make around 73k according to Indeed. I bet it's more though.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
Making a bit more than that now. Thanks anyways.
Ok-Job9408@reddit
I basically got my CDL to get into this fuel hauler profession out here in the central valley, California. The job postings says up to 130k salary, I'm sure some make more. I personally know someone that's been doing it for 20 years and brings home 100k after taxes, according to him.
santanzchild@reddit
if you legit don't care how long you are out then Alaskan oilfield
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
I genuinely, absolutely only care about a paycheck. It might be nice to ride my motorcycle once in a while during the summer, but I can pack it away for a couple of years.
santanzchild@reddit
indeed search north slope cdl
Dudes make a years pay in 6ish months usually
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
Oh, they shut down in the winter months? But I’m guessing they run pretty much 14 hours a day with the always on son during the summer
santanzchild@reddit
nah they do the big work in the winter when everything is frozen over and driveable
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
So what you are saying is that they might be doing a hiring push right this moment. I will definitely look into it.
santanzchild@reddit
the big push was September but they usually have spots to fill all season.
Alarming-Remote-3464@reddit
Heniff and Grammar haul some nasty shit. I know they’re north of $100K.
Isn’t Ammonia about the worst thing you can haul?
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
Ammonia and chlorine, yeah. Either one of those will melt your lungs pretty much.
happydaddyintx77@reddit
Anhydrous ammonia is the answer. There's a bunch of companies that will keep you running year round.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
Have any names or estimates on pay? But thanks for the search tip.
happydaddyintx77@reddit
Accord transportation, Farmers Oil, High Pressure Transport, LGT. It's hard to give a pay estimate. Most companies will pay you a percentage of the load. I've seen people make anywhere from 22-32%.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
I really appreciate all of the names. And damn, that is quite the pay gap. I’ll definitely look into this, thanks.
happydaddyintx77@reddit
There's plenty of other companies. That's just off the top of my head. It's dangerous to work with, but you're usually paid well for it.
NeoAcario@reddit (OP)
I am an infantry vet and no stranger to wearing a gas mask. As I am currently doing hazardous materials in liquid form already, I am well aware of how hazardous that is. My current company, however, just happens to do nothing that requires a gas mask. But just barely.
