Almost hit someone

Driving over in Trinity Groves, cautiously of course because the streets are narrow, and yet I still didn’t see this homeless man jump out in front of my car until it was almost too late! The man had on no shirt and shoes and just appeared in front of my car. I honked and it didn’t move him at all. After I barely swerved him, he started running in circles in the road. It felt like a big joke almost but I just can’t even imagine what would’ve happened if I hit the man. I’m still shaken up.
Honestly very traumatizing! Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Happened to me before too

Not that ive almost hit! But I did have a wild experience with a homeless man while I was at work near the galleria.
A raggedy looking man in torn up clothes had a massive machete in his hand waving around as he came up to the front window at my office and started air humping. Then suddenly walked away
My coworker and I are still puzzled to this day!

I read about this guy on Nextdoor. He’s known to be dangerous.
Competitive_Rice_462@reddit
did you call the cops? dude had a machete?
mllllllln@reddit
Lol as if the cops would do anything
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
In Texas? They're pretty much the poor man's handgun.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Well that's different. The only people I see with machetes are convenience store clerks.

A couple weeks ago a homeless man pushed another homeless man who was in a wheelchair into the road on Greenville and park lane. We almost hit him. It was terrifying. Esp when just the other night a man in a wheelchair was hit and killed near medallion. Idk if it was the same man. We both haven’t stopped thinking about it.
Sorry you dealt with that. I’m still shaken up today bc this am at about 9:45, a German shepherd was running loose on the southbound side of 75, the dog was coming right at us. Some people were stopping and some were on foot on the shoulder. I hope the dog and others were not injured.

Dogs are always the worst. i’m so sorry! When i was little i seen the aftermath of my Grandma’s dog get hit, he lived but not for very long due to internal bleeding. Anytime I see cars flying by and dogs are hanging out the window I worry!

I had one try to run out in front of my car Sunday night when I turned left under the bridge at Frankford. It was almost midnight. Scared the f out of me.
Key-Rest-4865@reddit
They do that a lot on westmoreland, it’s crazy scary!
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Especially right after dusk when our eyes are trying to adjust and everything looks glazed over. I decided that I hate driving around Camp Wisdom Rd at night.
Key-Rest-4865@reddit
Man frfr, I HATE going over the railroad tracks cause they are always there lol sucks

A good reminder to make sure you have a dashcam.

I almost hit a homeless who was jaywalking under an underpass. It is scary!
strawberry-kittea@reddit
It’s almost happened to me before, but I was told it happens sometimes because they’re trying to do an insurance claim if you hit them? I’m not too sure but 🤷
noncongruent@reddit
Joke's on them, like one out of seven Texans doesn't even have insurance.

my friends homeless addict sister did this twice in California so she could get some money and get taken care of. it didn't really work and I think she is homeless still
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
That sounds like the dumbest dare to accept.

Yes. Not in an area like that. Was out driving late at night on 35 heading out to a smaller town and there was a person kneeling down on the road. I swerved in time and pulled over only to see the trucker behind me go over the person or the person had time to move don’t know. Didn’t inspect the area but trucker never stopped. I freaked and called a friend who told me to not stop and check anything just to get back on the road and get out of there. Susicise attempt? Ghost? 🤷🏻♀️

My daughter's friend says this is happening in Corpus Christi (by the college campus) all the time. Homeless people will intentionally jump in front of cars in hopes they get hit. Wild times.

I saw a jaywalker homeless-looking couple in FND step out into the intersection when the oncoming traffic had a green light. The male of the couple got mad when he narrowly escaped getting hit, and then acted like he was going to attack the driver who had to slam on his brakes to avoid an accident. Thankfully he basically only took a few steps towards the car and then shook his fist.

This has been going on for decades. I used to see it in the Greenville and Park area as well.

Yes, downtown a few times over the years. Drugs are a hell of a drug. And if it’s not drugs, it’s a mental health issue.
Glad you were cautious. Sorry this happened.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
They're going to end up dead, in jail, or in Green Oaks.

Thank you! I’ve just been replaying in my head what that would’ve even been like had I hit him, he just jumped out in front of me. So crazy

Not sure if this counts but one night a opossum daddy was casually crossing walnut hill lane and I ALMOST didnt see it and I swerved real hard to avoid it and merely missed it by INCHES.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
I witnessed something really similar to this when I lived in Austin. A guy walked right onto I-35, and everyone started swerving to avoid him, which also caused numerous close calls. I think it's a major reason jaywalking is illegal. There's also a thing where we kind of zone out when doing monotonous tasks, including driving.

Happened near downtown to me recently; was driving and a guy in dark clothes was crossing the street looking at his phone while I was taking a left. Scared the shit out of me when I did see him.
