Axiom 7 question

Ahoy all. I hope y'all had a lovely summer on the water. I spent a two weeks this past summer scraping and painting the hull of my S2. I also installed a new transducer for the brand new Axiom 7. Imagine my surprise when my shiny new chart plotter didn't report depth! Kinda need that. I realize I will have to purchase charts to install, but I thought the depth gauge would not require them to function. The speedo reads fine. What am I missing here? Thanks!

you need a depth transducer which works. if your transducer is fried i would just bite the bullet and get a lowrance 3 in 1 active imaging transducer instead. it will give you down and side scan.

The transducer is brand new and the wheel on it gives knots. How can it be fried?

Is it in the water?

OK, we'll assume you've put the boat back in the water, which is required for the transducer to work as a depth sensor. Next, have you selected this particular device as the 'Source' for depth data within the network? There should be a 'Sources' menu within the settings for the network of devices your Axion is connected to.
Result?
I've read your question again. Be aware that you might see a speed on the chartplotter even if the Speed, Temperature and Depth sensor is fried. That speed will be Speed Over Ground, which comes from one of your GPS capable network devices. So, are you seeing Speed Over Ground but not Speed Through Water (AKA Boat Speed)? If yes, consider the STD sensor to be suspect.

There are several types of transducers and ways to connect them to your Axiom across the network. The first step will be to confirm that your transducer is communicating correctly over the network.
On your Axoiom, go to your home screen, then the settings menu. No select the Network tab. You should be able to see which transducers are available on the network, but if they are connected to an ITC-5 converter, you will see that instead. ( you should see all the other devices on your network too. If any).
Next, in the bottom right corner of the Network tab, you will find the "Data Sources". This should allow you to set the depth data source to your transducer if it isn't already. You can also check your boat speed source and other parameters too.
Also consider doing firmware updates on the Axiom and any devices that support updates. With an Axiom connected to WiFi, you don't need to mess about with memory cards. The latest Lighthouse 4 update was about 1.3 GB download iirc.
If you don't see your transducer on the network, check your network setup before suspecting a new transducer is bad. Check for a power feed, make sure it's live and that the fuse is good. Be sure that your branch cables are fully seated in the tees and that you have a termination resistor on each end of the backbone.
Hope that helps! Good luck!

THAT was beyond helpful. Have a new Lewmar sender. Next theme him n boar I’ll do as ukulele suggest. Thanks,

Have you tried adding depth on the screen? It's not clear from your question if you expected the depth to show up on the screen right away (it won't), or if you've tried to add that value on the chart display and it just doesn't give you a reading or lets you add it. Axiom is highly configurable in what it can show on the display at any time, so dive into the manual and the menus to make sure you've set it up correctly.
You say the speedo reads fine. Are you sure the speed you're seeing is from the sensor, and not just the GPS speed that the plotter gets on its own?

Good questions ! I hope they help OP get his system running.
